Please Note:

Today's CSC Meeting is Canceled.

From the Principal:

I spent the afternoon at the district's annual Young Author's event at Temple Emmanuel. We had two special authors: Sofia Chavez and Joseph Suematsu (above). Sofia is in 3rd grade and wrote Awesome Amazing Poems, and Joe, who is in 5th grade, wrote and illustrated Why Angels Have Wings. Check out their work in our library. We are very proud of our Cory students. Tamara Bilewski, our GT Specialist, and their classroom teachers Victoria Williams and Lucy Pfeffer supported their literary efforts. Congratulations, Sofia and Joe!

It's hard to believe we have only two weeks of school left. It is a busy time with the annual special events this week of Field Day, the Concert on the Green and the Sock Hop. There is still teaching and learning going on, so please be on time these last weeks.

Every summer I have been at Cory we have construction. This summer is no exception. Thanks to the bond from last year the district is replacing all of our windows and lights. So the building will be closed beginning June 7 for the summer. We are planning registration for Tuesday, August 17. Please see my note going home about our class configurations for Cory next year.

-- Julia Shepherd, Cory Principal

Chair Still Needed
Auction Planning Meeting, 5-20

The Cory Auction Committee is having its first planning meeting for the 2010/2011 school year auction next Thursday, May 20, at 9 a.m. in the cafeteria.

This year's chairs have already done a lot of organizing to make next year's event a success and we want to keep that momentum and get the major items like the date, venue, caterer and auctioneer booked soon.

We have one co-chair, but still need another chair and a strong committee to put together this wonderful event. If you are interested in being a co-chair or helping in any other capacity please come to our first planning meeting next Thursday. If you are unable to make the planning meeting but would like to be involved please contact Michelle Campbell (michelle@imcampbell.com) or Stephanie Henry (sclaypoolhenry@comcast.net).

Thanks and see you Thursday!!

Thanks!!

2010 Field Day Schedule & What to Wear

Field Day for all students will be Wednesday, May 19.

Field Day Hours:

  • Grades K-1 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Grades 2-3 from 10:05 a.m. to 11:05 a.m.
  • Grades 4-5 from 1 to 2 p.m.

Dress Safely

At Cory, flip-flops or clog- type shoes are not permitted for field day because they fail to protect or stay on the children’s feet when they are participating. Wearing apparel that interferes with or endangers the student or others during events should not be worn. The decision as to the safety or unsuitability of the clothing is a matter of the judgment of school personnel. Hats are not to be worn in the building.  However, hats and sunscreen are encouraged during field day, to avoid prolonged sun exposure.

I’ll see everyone on the 19th!

Next 2 Fridays

Reloadable King Soopers Cards

We now have reloadable King Soopers cards available for purchase the next two Fridays after school on the playground. The card costs $5 which you can pay by cash or a check made out to Cory PTA. You then reload the card when you shop at King Soopers for any amount up to $500 using your credit card, cash, or check. You can also send a labeled envelope enclosing payment with your child to give to his or her teacher. Our goal is to sell as many cards as possible before the school year ends so we can make money for our school over the summer! If you have any questions, please contact Linda Scara at lscara@comcast.net.

Thank you for your support!

Keeping Cory Safe

Blake Sanchez, para for 2/3, is Cory’s new crossing guard. If you want to help with the yellow poles or other areas of traffic please let Chris Fuentes and the safety committee know.
